It\u2019s tempting under these circumstances\nto wave away this job as something you can skip for a year. But neglecting an\nair conditioner can create problems that will worsen over time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is what you can expect to go wrong with an AC if it\u2019s\nneglected:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>A shorter service life. <\/strong>When you see that\nthe manufacturer\u2019s estimated service life for an AC is 10 to 15 years, that\u2019s\nthe estimate <em>with annual maintenance<\/em>. Without maintenance, you can cut\nthat time in half. Do you want to need to replace your AC after 8 years when it\ncould\u2019ve run for fifteen? That\u2019s an expensive replacement!<\/li><li><strong>Lower capacity.<\/strong> An air conditioner that\nisn\u2019t kept in peak shape through regular tune-ups and cleanings just won\u2019t be able\nto do its job as well. It\u2019s the same for a poorly maintained car. The air conditioner\nwon\u2019t keep your house as cool and you\u2019ll soon start to notice rooms that are hotter\nthan they should be.<\/li><li><strong>Higher electrical bills.<\/strong> As an air\nconditioner declines, it will need to expend more power to run than normal. You\ncan expect your electrical bills to rise because of this. On average, an AC\nwill become 5% less efficient each year unless it\u2019s maintained.<\/li><li><strong>More repair calls.<\/strong> The majority of repairs\nan air conditioner may need are preventable through maintenance, or else\nmaintenance will catch them early so you won\u2019t be stuck making an emergency repair\ncall. <\/li><li><strong>Unreliable performance.<\/strong> An air\nconditioning system that\u2019s in danger of breaking down during the hottest days\nof summer will wreck your peace of mind. Unfortunately, that\u2019s a risk you run with\nan AC that\u2019s had regular maintenance neglected.<\/li><li><strong>Poorer air quality.<\/strong> All the air circulated\nthrough your house\u2019s HVAC system must pass through the air conditioner. A neglected\nAC will pick up so much dust and dirt that it will affect the quality of air circulating\nthrough it. It will also allow for humidity to increase. It may even start to develop\nmold.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2>A Warranty Reminder<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All of the above problems arise from the effect of wear and tear\non a neglected air conditioning system. But missing maintenance has an additional\neffect\u2014it may void the equipment warranty. Without this warranty, you might end\nup having to pay to repair or replace an air conditioning system due to a\nfactory fault.
