What Constitutes an Air Conditioning Emergency?

Summers here in Dover, DE are as hot and humid as they come, and when the temperature starts to spike, you need your air conditioner to function at top capacity. Unfortunately, breakdowns don’t always follow a 9-to-5 schedule, and sometimes your air conditioner runs into trouble much later than most businesses stay open. The good news is that professionals in the Dover area are on call 24 hours a day, and in the event of an emergency, they can come to your home to repair your system. But what constitutes an air conditioning emergency? At what point do you summon aid in the middle of the night and when do you simply hold on for normal business hours the next morning? It’s usually a matter of individual judgement, but here are a few guidelines to help you make the call.

Comfort

The big question surrounding an after-hours repair call concerns the cost of waiting. If you experience a problem with your air conditioner, you should shut it off immediately and call for assistance. If you can wait until normal business hours and retain some modicum of comfort, you should probably do so. If it adversely impacts your comfort, however – say if we’re in the middle of a heat wave and the high temperatures will keep you from getting a good night’s sleep – then it might pay to summon a technician for an after-hours repair.

Safety

In very rare cases, the issue may be one of safety more than comfort. A refrigerant leak, for example, has the potential to harm family members or cause other, similar problems. There might also be an issue with indoor air quality. If your air conditioning system involves UV filters or the like, sensitive family members might contract an illness or suffer an asthma attack, which means you can’t simply leave the system turned off until regular business hours.

Here at Atlantic Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, we offer 24-hour emergency assistance if you need it. Give us a call and don’t wait another minute!
