Dehumidifiers Make Summer More Comfortable

Summer is coming to Seaford, DE faster than you may think, and we’ve already experienced flirtations with high temperatures and higher humidity. That last part is what concerns us today, for high humidity levels can be just as bad as the heat when it comes to your household comfort levels. Air conditioners can begin to address the problem, but they’re not set up for that and excess humidity can increase the strain on them considerably. Instead, have a whole-house dehumidifier installed by a trained technician. The benefits can be more substantial than you think.

Why is High Humidity a Problem?

Whenever relative humidity levels rise above 50% or so, there’s too much moisture in the air to let the sweat evaporate off of our skin (which is our body’s natural way of keeping cool). As a result, the sweat remains, leading to that clammy gross feeling as well as making the air feel hotter than it is. High humidity also fosters the growth of germs and bacteria, and by forcing your air conditioner to work harder to cool your home, it increases stress on the system, as well as raising those monthly bills.

How Dehumidifiers Stop It

Dehumidifiers aren’t all that different from air conditioners, since lowering the temperature of the air is the best way to remove moisture. (It’s why dew forms in the early morning: the coolest hours f the day.) But unlike air conditioners, which have to do that while still performing their primary function, dehumidifiers can focus solely on removing excess moisture. As a result, your air becomes more comfortable and the excess strain on your air conditioner is removed: lowering your monthly bills as well as making your home a more secure haven against high summer mugginess.
