Protect Your Home Against Allergens

Dover, DE gets its share of humidity in the summer, and that means allergens come out to play. If you or a family member suffers from allergies, this can be a devastating time of the year, with pollen, bacteria and other creepy-crawlies making your life miserable. Your home should be a haven against allergens, but you can’t help but let some in every time you open a door or a window. What’s to be done? Luckily, there are a number of solutions to be had. Some of which can be implemented very easily, while others require a trained technician to install new equipment in your home. But all of them will help you and your family breathe a little easier this summer. Let’s break them down for you.

  • UV Air Purifier. UV air purifiers are intended to specifically address biological contaminants such as germs and bacteria. They’re exposed to ultraviolet light as they pass through your air conditioning system and are killed or rendered sterile as a result. A trained technician can install such a system for you.
  • HEPA Filters. Every air conditioning system comes with its own filters, and if you have someone who suffers from allergies, you should change it or clean it at least once a month. In particular, look for powerful filters like HEPA  (high efficiency particulate air) filters to make sure you get as much protection as possible.
  • Stripping. One simple way to keep allergens out of your home is to put down stripping around cracks beneath your door and window frames. They’re easily purchased at any hardware store or home improvement center, and they’ll make a big difference in your indoor air quality.
  • Electronic Air Filters. If a simple air filter isn’t enough, look into the installation of an electronic air filter. It ionizes particles as they pass through your air conditioner, causing them to stick to a collection plate and removing them from the air.

Atlantic Refrigeration and Air Conditioning can help protect your home against allergens.
